FAQs
How much of a JB1of1 piece is upcycled?
It varies, and can always be found in the description of the item. Usually as standard, the entire outer, or "shell" of a piece is made using upcycled materials. In the case of fusings, threads, zips and linings - we believe it is best to use new materials to allow our garments to perform at their best, for longer.
Please note this does not apply to Watermark items, where most are custom cut and sewn from unique sublimation printed virgin bull denim.
How do I know my item is truly one of one?
Because, frankly, it couldn't be anything else. Each item is made one of one due to incredibly finite resources in our streamlined upcycling process, as well as the fact that we pride ourselves on making something truly unique for each customer. Of course, items may share elements such as fabrics or certain details, but no two pieces will ever look alike.
Please note this does not apply to Watermark items, where most items are made in limited size runs (ie one item per size, eg a pair of jeans would be made in each waist size from 26 to 38 only once)
The Design and Manufacture Process
The design process begins by bringing in materials through a variety of second-hand and waste streams - for example vintage wholesalers, deadstock or charity shops. These garments are then carefully dismantled to provide flat fabric bases to cut the patterns of our silhouettes on. The initial patchwork process is handled in-person by Joseph, with each item receiving his careful attention to detail. These manufacture-ready panels are then sent to one of our London production partners for construction, overseen meticulously and with the highest respect for manufacturing ethics.
Through this refined process we not only keep every single item designed entirely by Joseph - we also keep all garments manufactured locally to factory/industry standards. Its truly the best of both worlds, all in service of our customers.
Please note this does not apply to Watermark items, where most items are printed via sublimation print or screen print onto mostly virgin fabrics such as bull denim.
